IT’S TIME TO GET OUT OF YOUR OWN WAY

  • The quality of your relationships will determine the quality of your life.

  • A dynamic, engaged life requires self-reflection, course correction, self-compassion and a sense of humor.

  • Painful experiences are wasted if you don't learn from them.

What is IFS?

IFS is a process of getting to know all the different parts of yourself, gaining a deep understanding of what motivates your actions and feelings, and most importantly, learning self-compassion for all of your parts and indeed your whole self. This is deep, exciting work and utterly transformational.

What is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)?

ACT emphasizes accepting what we cannot not change, identifying values in order to make the meaningful changes that are within our control, and then developing a strategy to see those changes realized. This model mirrors my own life philosophy, and my clients have had wonderful results with this approach..

What is RLT?

In RLT you and your partner will learn identify the patterns that are keeping you from the connection and intimacy you want in your relationship. You will leave therapy with a deep understanding of how you are both getting in your own way, and strategies to better communicate your own needs and to meet the needs of your partner.

Education and Credentials

I graduated from New York University with a Master's degree in Social Work. My post-graduate training includes a year-long fellowship at Psychoanalytic Theory at the Institute for Psychoanalytic Theory and Research (IPTAR), three years of supervised practice in Psychodynamic Therapy under Drs. C.E. Robins and John Broughton. I completed my training in IFS with Dick Schwartz, Nancy Sowell and Pam Krause. My training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) was with John Forsyth, Ph.D. I studied RLT with its creator, Terry Real. I have spent countless hours taking seminars and reading books in a myriad of additional techniques and modalities. Basically if I think it might help you, I will learn it.

ABOUT TONYA

It is a privilege and a joy to assist people who are bravely working to make things better. My years of working, and living, have taught me that the formula for living by the principles outlined above are this: a combination of deep self-knowledge and authenticity, combined with calm, rational self-talk , a heavy dose of self-compassion and finally, meaningful, value based action.

The two modalities that I have found most effective in creating this formula in are IFS (Internal Family Systems) and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy). And, for couples work RLT (Relational Life Therapy).
